🧘‍♂️ Insight Timer (03/2020-12/2021)

The #1 free meditation app on mobile and web offers guided meditations, talks and music created by community of teachers and artists. I was here initially as a Senior Software Engineer, and then a Team Lead.

Live events

Teachers on the app wanted to deepen their audience engagement and start monetising them. With a lean team of 3, we built and launched a live streaming platform within 2 months. From an initial prototype, it grew to supporting thousands of live events per week.

✅ Features:

• Teachers are able to schedule and stream live meditation, yoga and coaching sessions via their phone or desktop.
• Audience are able to drop live comments and reaction emojis.
• Audience are able to donate to teachers via credit card payments.

App redesign

A huge app redesigned happened towards the end of my time here. As it happened, there weren’t enough mobile developers to finish the project on time. Hence, the CTO tasked me to reconfigure my team from React (web) to Flutter (mobile) to help. As the tech was quite similar, I championed the idea successfully and transitioned my team to writing Flutter within 2 months via completing courses and practicing on real tasks.

✅ Outcomes:

• The company had an extra mobile squad to help with app redesign. My team built the new homepage and its features like Stories, Check-ins and Recommendations.
• We became a super helpful cross functional team that is full stack between web and mobile.
• Some of my team members fell in love with Flutter and stayed on as core contributor to the mobile app.
